]]>Here’s a quick workout that packs a punch if you want to jump start your fitness routine. Try a Tabata set to fire up your metabolism with interval training. A Tabata workout is eight consecutive sets of an exercise; 20 seconds of work (giving your maximum effort) followed by ten seconds of rest. Do that eight times and you’ve completed one round. For a full body workout, choose six to eight exercises that focus on all major muscle groups and include some cardio bursts.
Tabata Set
Remember, eight sets of each exercise before moving onto the next one; 20 seconds of work, ten seconds rest.
Bicep curls: Hold a dumbbell in each hand and stand with your feet hip-width distance apart. Let your arms hand down at your sides with your palms forward. Keep your elbows in at your sides and slow curl both arms upward until they’re in front of your shoulder. Slowly lower and repeat.
Plank jacks: Begin in plank position with your shoulders over your wrists. Your body should be in a straight line from your head to your ankles with your feet together. Jump your legs wide and then back together, just like a jumping jack, but instead you’re holding plank.
Alternating split lunges: Step into a lunge position with one foot forward with the knee bent, and the rear knee nearly touching the ground. Make sure your front knee is not over your toes. From that lunge position, jump as high as possible, shifting the position of your feet so the alternating foot is forward. Swing your arms to gain additional lift. Alternate legs for the duration of the exercise. If you’re unable to jump, you can modify this exercise by stepping back, returning to your original position and alternating legs each time.
Mountain climbers: Begin in plank position with your shoulders over your wrists. Your body should be in a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles. Lift your right foot off of the floor and raise your knee as close to your chest as you can. Return to plank position and repeat the exercise with your left leg. Continue alternating legs. Increase speed to get the most out of the exercise.
Jump squats: Start in a regular squat position with feet hip-width distance apart. Squat down, making sure your knees are behind your toes, engage your core, and then jump up explosively. Land softly on your feet in the squat position so you remain in control of your body.
Russian twists: Grab a dumbbell and sit on the floor with your hips and knees bent 90 degrees. Hold the weight straight out in front of you and keep your back straight. You should be leaning back at a 45-degree angle. Twist your torso as far as you can to the left and then reverse the motion twisting to the right. Continue twisting back and forth, engaging your abdominal muscles throughout each set.

]]>Increase cabinet capacity with inserts. Outfit your bathroom and kitchen cabinets with freestanding stacking shelves or divider racks to improve the function of the space. You can double the capacity of a cabinet by adding store-bought inserts.
Store seasonal items under your bed. Most home stores sell storage boxes of various heights that you can slide under your bed. Seasonal clothing, holiday décor, and sports equipment can be hidden away, yet still easy to access when you need it.
Swap out your conventional coffee table. Storage ottomans and chests can serve double duty as a coffee table and a stylish storage option. Find a low-profile chest to store books, games, or Blu-ray discs. Ottomans can hold your possessions, plus provide a place for you and your guests to sit.
Use baskets and bins to sort and organize. Containers in your closets can help you keep like items together and maintain order in a space that can quickly get out of control. Customize your closets with a variety of baskets and bins to house everything from medication to beach towels.
Go vertical. Take full advantage of all the vertical volume your living space offers. Strategically placed cubby systems and shelving can increase your storage area. Add style and character to your home by creatively displaying books, photos, and collections on the wall.
Repurpose items to suit your needs. Use a hanging shoe organizer on the back of a closet door for compartmentalized storage. You can discreetly store all sorts of items including bathroom supplies, sports gear, electronics/cable storage in an organized, accessible way that doesn’t take up prime real estate in a closet or drawer.
Invest in furniture pieces that provide additional storage: Purchase a functional piece of furniture that fulfills storage needs. Freestanding wardrobes, media centers, and bookcases can add character to your home while storing or displaying items.
These easy-to-implement solutions can make a big impact in your home, helping you use your storage space to its fullest potential.

]]>The post Hot Summer Days: 10 Ways to Conserve Electricity appeared first on One11 Blog.
]]>During heatwaves when electricity demand peaks, state officials may call for voluntary reductions in electricity use. Energy conservation is key to minimizing power outages. Interruptions of electric service are possible during the day and evening hours due to extreme heatwave conditions. Be prepared for Flex Alerts which are urgent calls to immediately conserve electricity and shift usage to off-peak hours, typically after 6 pm.
You can help your community and save yourself a little money by conserving electricity on the hot summer days. Follow these ten steps to quickly reduce your electricity usage:
- Set your home thermostat to 78 degrees or higher.
- Keep windows and doors closed during the heat of the day to prevent the loss of cooled air.
- Operate high-energy appliances like dishwashers and washer/dryers during early morning and late evening hours when the electricity demands decreases. Wash only full loads of dishes and clothes.
- Minimize how often you open your refrigerator or freezer.
- Avoid using your stove to keep your home cooler and cook outside at one of the BBQ grilling stations.
- Prevent heat gain through your windows by closing the blinds.
- Run a ceiling fan while your air conditioner is on. This circulates the cool air and will allow you to raise your thermostat about 4 degrees while experiencing the same level of comfort.
- Turn off unnecessary lights and unplug unused appliances.
- On hot afternoons, head to the pool and cool off, adjusting your thermostat to 85 degrees or higher when you’re away from home.
- Avoid using evaporative coolers or humidifiers at the same time an air conditioner is running.

]]>The post Keepin’ It Clean: Top Tips to Care for Quartz Countertops and Stainless Steel Appliances appeared first on One11 Blog.
]]>Quartz countertops
Made from one of the hardest minerals on earth, quartz countertops are one of the most durable options for kitchens. The ground quartz is combined with polyester resins to create a dense, non-porous surface that is stain and scratch resistant.
How to care for quartz:
Wash the surface with warm water and dish soap, using a soft cotton cloth. Avoid bleach and abrasive products. Wipe up spills immediately to prevent set-in stains. Quartz is more durable and resistant to damage than other stone, but not completely chip-proof, so be careful with objects hitting the surface. Quartz can also be damaged by rapid changes in temperature and direct contact with hot pots and pans, so always use a potholder to protect your countertop.
Stainless steel appliances
Stainless steel appliances offer a clean, contemporary look in the kitchen, but they're prone to showing water marks, spills, and fingerprints. Dirt, dust, and grime put stainless steel at risk for corrosion and rust. The key to keeping stainless steel gleaming is proper care and maintenance.
How to care for stainless steel:
Routine cleaning can be accomplished by wiping down the surface with warm water and drying with a towel or microfiber cloth to prevent water spots. If you need something a bit more powerful, consider one of these methods:
Method 1: Vinegar and Oil
Spray your appliance liberally with distilled white vinegar. Using either a paper towel or a soft cloth, wipe the vinegar off in the direction of the grain. Finish by polishing with a little bit of olive oil on a soft cloth.
Method 2: Dish Soap
A drop of mild dish detergent and warm water is often all you need to get tougher dirt off of your stainless steel. Put a small drop of dish soap on a cloth. Add warm water to the cloth and rub the dish soap to suds up your cleaning cloth. Wipe down the dirty area, rinse, and dry.
Method 3: Glass Cleaner
Take care of smudges and fingerprints with glass cleaner. Spray the cleaner on a microfiber cloth and wipe the stainless steel in a gentle, circular motion to remove the mark. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry.
Method 4: Baking Soda
Baking soda is an inexpensive and non-toxic alternative cleaner. Polish and clean stainless steel by combining 3 tablespoons of baking soda with enough water to make a paste. Rub the mixture over the surface with a sponge and rinse off with warm water.
Method 5: Stainless Steel Cleaner
If you have stains that are difficult to remove, a stainless steel cleaner may be a good option. These cleaners and polishes can help minimize scratching, remove stains, and polish surfaces. Carefully read the directions and make sure to test in an inconspicuous spot before applying.

]]>Safeguard Your Home
Secure sliding glass doors and windows: An unsecured sliding door or window can provide an intruder with a relatively easy entrance to your home. While it's important to always lock your doors and windows when it's not in use, it’s even more effective to use a secondary blocking device. For optimal security, insert a wooden dowel or stick into the door or window track limiting movement. If you leave your doors and windows open for air flow, block the window open no more than six inches and make sure you can't reach in from the outside and remove the blocking device.
Keep balcony clear: Your balcony is not a safe storage area. Don’t keep anything valuable, like a bicycle, on your balcony or patio.
Use light timers and close blinds: Interior lighting is necessary to show signs that someone is home, even if you aren’t. Invest in inexpensive light-timers and use them regularly. The pattern of them clicking on and off simulates actual occupancy. Close blinds when you leave your home to keep wandering eyes from scanning your valuables and reduce your risk of break-ins.
Know Your Community
Get to know our staff and your neighbors: Familiarize yourself with our employees including safety patrol, contract maintenance, and any grounds personnel. Report anyone that doesn’t look familiar. Introduce yourself to your neighbors. Good neighbors can report suspicious activity.
Be prepared
ID your belongings: Engrave your drivers’ license number on TVs, computers, and other electronic devices. If your items are taken, it’s easier to identify and locate them if they are engraved. Photograph or videotape your high-value belongings and make a list of the make, model, and serial numbers. Store this list off-site for safe keeping.
Purchase renters’ insurance: Renters’ insurance will protect the value of your possessions in case they are stolen or destroyed by a disaster. Many insurance companies offer policies specifically for renters that cover all your property at the full replacement cost.
